On June 30, 1967, the Sint Martinus and Willem van der Velden School was opened by Mayor W. Thomassen on Van Alkemadestraat. Sculptor Guus Hellegers was commissioned, through the percentage scheme, to create a work of art for the school's construction. He created this bronze sculpture, which stands on a low, square pedestal. The sculpture consists of two figures: in the foreground, a large figure leaning slightly backward. Behind him, a smaller figure stands on its hands, its legs bent toward the large figure. The sculpture's playfulness resonates with the experiences of primary school children. Hellegers titled the sculpture clown and it stands in front of the entrance to what was then the school. The building is now empty.
