On Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2025, the artwork was The whirligig bird by Atelier Van Lieshout unveiled on the Balcony at the Maashaven on Brielselaan in Charlois. The program image is a donation of investmentcompany Van Uden on gRotterdam municipality, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Rotterdam family business. Van Uden commissioned Atelier Van Lieshout to create the artwork. To celebrate this new artwork, Van Uden organized a free neighborhood party for young and old – 'Day of the Owl' – with a program full of workshops, music, and food and drinks. The party is set to become an annual event for and by the neighborhood. The artwork consists of a five-metre-high copper owl standing on top of a huge egg that can rotate 360 degrees on its axis. The owl stands for wisdom, foresight, and creativity, according to the work's creator, Joep van Lieshout. The egg represents the future, something that has yet to 'blossom'. The artist switched for the final name of the sculpture — the work was unveiled as The owl — the help of the neighborhood was brought in. A naming contest was organized among the residents of the Tarwewijk, from which the final title of the work was chosen, which became The whirligig bird.
