The artwork is located on the edge of the schoolyard of the public primary school De Phoenix in Rozenburg Three birds flying out. The bronze sculpture of three birds, flying up and leaving, stands on a high concrete column. The work was made by visual artist Leo van Oudheusden, several of whose works can be found in Rozenburg. Van Oudheusden is a sculptor, who has worked a lot in bronze in a traditional naturalistic style. The elegant lines of the animals fit well with the robust high pedestal. The work radiates freedom and life, which fits well with a school and the education of students. In Rotterdam there are more works that refer to the growing up of children and leaving the nest, into the wide world. The artwork originally stood at another primary school in Rozenburg.
