Dune 4.2 was an interactive dune landscape: a fusion of nature and technology consisting of artificial marram grass, which lit up based on the movement of walkers. In this artificial landscape, the hiker experienced nature in a futuristic way by looking, walking and experiencing. On Thursday 29 October 2009 the artwork was delivered in a festive manner. Following the residents' initiative 'Kunst in de Esch', after a long and fruitful process of research and discussions, CBK Rotterdam gave the green light for the final design phase of the project Dune 4.2 van Daan Roosegaarde. The residents of the Esch have chosen Roosegaarde and this work based on a sketch round. Dune 4.2 is a collaborative project of CBK Rotterdam, the New Rotterdam Culture Foundation and the residents' initiative 'Kunst in de Esch'. The project was under the name in 2007 Dune 4.1 on display in the Maastunnel, organized by Rotterdam 2007 - City of Architecture. After a lengthy testing period it was on February 4, 2013 Dune 4.2 dismantled.
