Krijn de Koning (Amsterdam, 1963) studied art at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, De Ateliers in Haarlem, and the Institut des Hautes Études en Art Plastique in Paris. Since the 1990s, he has been creating site-specific sculptures and installations for exhibitions, museums, galleries, and public spaces. He constructs his work through floors, walls, spaces, and corridors. He often uses bright colors, but sometimes also natural hues or simply the color of the space itself. Simple architectural forms and color are tools to bring about significant changes in the spaces for which he creates a work. His works are meant to be entered; you can sit or linger in them. In 2007, he won the Sikkens Prize. His work has been exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, the Edinburgh Art Festival in Scotland, and LiFE in Saint-Nazaire, France. Public artworks by De Koning can be found in Utrecht, Amsterdam, and, starting in 2026, in Hoek van Holland. His works also feature in public spaces in Hasselt, Belgium, and in Rennes and Nantes, France.
