Ariane Elffers-Stam (Amsterdam, 1935) attended the Rijks Normaalschool in Amsterdam and studied under artists Louis van Roode and Wim Steyn. She claims to have drawn her inspiration from archetypal subjects and nature. In 1966, she made the large bronze Phoenix for Krimpen a/d IJssel, where she has lived since the early XNUMXs. She also made at least two other commissioned sculptures that can be found in documentation – without a location. In addition to commissioned work, she also made free work, abstract sculptures with organic Hepworth-like shapes. From the XNUMXs onwards, she occasionally participated in group exhibitions at smaller galleries, with the Goudsche Courant describing her sculptures as spiritual in the XNUMXs. Ariane Stam-Elffers is the daughter of architect and urban planner Lotte Stam-Beese and was married to sculptor Chris Elffers.
