Tuesday afternoon 26 September 2006 became the work of art in the new-build neighborhood of Nesselande in Rotterdam Hydra by artist Moritz Ebinger was unveiled. The artwork stands in the water of Rietveldpark at Paul Schuitemastraat 2. In 2000, the then-submunicipality of Prins Alexander commissioned CBK Rotterdam to develop a plan for visual art in the public space of Nesselande. Based on the art plan "The Sea Level and the Polder" by Hendri van der Putten, three art commissions were issued in 2001 on behalf of BKOR. The artwork Hydra by Moritz Ebinger was the first to be realized. The artist found part of his inspiration in the comic book. The darling of scarlet rackham Tintin. The artwork features a figurine of a life-sized fire hydrant wearing a diving helmet, from which large soap bubbles emerge. A second helmet floats next to it in the water. Besides the comic book, the Greek myth of Hercules' battle with the many-headed monster also inspired the artist. The title Hydra is derived from this myth and refers to the 'water serpent', a vast constellation on the celestial equator.
