About the artwork
On All Souls' Day, Tuesday, November 2, 2010, there was great interest from the relatives Children's courtyard opened at St. Laurentius cemetery by Mayor Aboutaleb. The new courtyard has undergone a total metamorphosis. Together with landscape architect Ada Wille, visual artist Petra Laaper has worked on the implementation of a new design, in which light, tranquility, nature and colorful elements form the starting point. For the Children's courtyard Laaper has designed a ceramic memorial wall on which the names of deceased children are immortalized in bronze. There is also a ceramic carousel bench, a playful element where young and old can sit and let their thoughts wander. And two blue ceramic thresholds have been placed on the access roads, which mark the transition from the general area to the children's area and thus the Children's courtyard limit.
