Artist Leo van Oudheusden has created several works for his hometown of Rozenburg. This untitled façade relief, with the description 'activities in the region', is a very striking and idiosyncratic creation, of which he was very pleased at the time. More than in his other works, Van Oudheusden responded here to trends in late European art. Constructivism, in particular, is recognizable in it. In the center of the sculpture sits a wire construction. He has incorporated the ideas regarding space and mass associated with it into this piece, combined with his own organic style. It is an abstract version of a floral motif with a rotating heart in the center. Apart from this heart, which is made of aluminium and provides light reflection, the entire piece is made of copper. Rays radiate from the heart in all directions, emphasized by thin iron wires. These extend around the corner of the wall. The whole is a symbol of the role the fire department fulfills in the community. Van Oudheusden collaborated with the building's architect. He deliberately added the science fiction-like form as a reference to the future. Striking and exciting artworks can be found at several fire stations in Rotterdam. Unfortunately, the work was stolen from the facade in the spring of 2026.
