At the entrance of this Stadsbeheer building of the Municipality of Rotterdam on Kleinpolderplein there is a small bronze man, or a Man. The statue was unveiled on May 18, 1977 by Mr Wassenaar, according to the Rotterdam City Archives website. The statue depicts a garbage collector holding a bin in his hands. It Man stands on a low square pedestal of stone, on which the years 1876-1976 are written. It was a gift from the staff on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of ROTEB, an abbreviation of Cleaning, Disinfection, Transport and Fire Department (later this became Company Workshops). The building complex was designed by the Van den Broek and Bakema architectural firm and completed between 1951 and 1954.
Nicolaas (Klaas) van Rosmalen (Den Bosch, 1926 – there, 2008) was a Dutch sculptor and painter. In 1963 Van Rosmalen founded the art dealership Parastone in Den Bosch, a spin-off from art dealership Borzo. A number of statues of Van Rosmalen have been placed in public spaces in the Netherlands, including the statue of Vincent van Gogh (1984) in Nuenen is the best known. After his retirement, the sculptor focused more on painting.
