Since 2015, the luminous ribs of a globe have been shining on the roof of this hundred-year-old electricity house on Tiendplein. It is a network visualization annex globe, in which the port city of Rotterdam is the center of the world. The lines end up at the largest dot with 010, the Rotterdam area code. Below that is the text The World is Yours, with which Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam want to give youngsters in the neighborhood self-confidence: the world is at your feet, make something of it! It is a quote from gangster Tony Montana from the film Scarface (1983). For years, Tiendplein was charged with crime and drug nuisance. The redesign of the Tiendplein and the artwork is an initiative of the West-Kruiskade Alliance, a collaboration between the area committee, the municipality of Rotterdam, shopkeepers' association and Woonstad Rotterdam. Producer was Mothership.
Artist Arno Coenen (Deventer, 1972) studied at the art academy in Groningen. He works in various media, such as video art, 3D animation, glass and mosaic. From 2006 to 2018, he formed an artistic duo with Iris Roskam. Together they have created various works of art, including the artwork cornucopia for the Markthal.
Visual artist Iris Roskam (Delft, 1976) studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and the AKI in Enschede. From 2006 to 2018 she formed an artistic duo with Arno Coenen. Together they have created various works of art, including the ceiling artwork cornucopia for the Markthal.
