Time Warp (2003-2024) is a film record of the growth process of young trees. The WG Witteveenplein location is the center of the new Stadstuinen residential area in the Feijenoord district. In 2003, the square was laid out as a park, with space for an artwork. Local residents expressed a desire for a non-physical sculpture, rather than an artwork that emerges from a process. Commissioned by BKOR, artist duo Driessens & Verstappen and Arnoud Holleman created the proposal for Time Warp, documenting the growth process of the young trees over a period of twenty years. That was approximately the time the young saplings would need to reach maturity. The artists anticipated the future by planting a mature sweetgum tree in the middle of the square. The young trees would slowly grow towards it. Unfortunately, the mature tree did not make it, but the documentation continued. For twenty years, they took a few photos per year from fixed viewpoints, which became part of stop-motion films. The focus was on the growth of the trees, but meanwhile, you could also see how local residents made the square their own. In 2023, the artists stopped documenting as agreed. To Time Warp to be rounded off, the internet address is used as a permanent marker www.witteveenplein.com engraved in one of the large boulders in the square. The film can be viewed on this website, in which you go back twenty years in time in five minutes, to the moment of construction, when everything was still possible.
