About the artwork
This two-dimensional sculpture of a female figure on a pedestal was unveiled on January 14, 2019. After the redevelopment of the Burgemeester de Josselin de Jonglaan and the construction of the houses there, the contractor decided to donate a work of art to the neighborhood. The idea for a statue on the roundabout arose from contact with artist Harry van der Woerd, who himself lives in Overschie. The work is called Bird nymph: nymphs are figures from classical mythology and according to the artist, a nymph is a mythical female figure that would fly across the continents. His nymph stands in the middle of the roundabout and points in the direction of Oud-Overschie with a wink to the airport.
