On November 24, 2014, Jules Deelder (1944-2019) celebrated his seventieth birthday. On this day, a statue of him was unveiled next to Café Ari, the poet's regular pub and near the house where he lived for a long time. The statue, titled What makes no sense is real It was placed at the initiative of Deelder's friends Hans Kleinjan, Jack Kerklaan, and Krijn van Laar to commemorate his special birthday. The sculpture is a black steel silhouette based on a profile photo of Deelder taken by Lenny Oosterwijk. Mothership acted as art producer. The silhouette was given color by Kleinjan in 2016, but after Deelder's passing, the work was spray-painted black again in early 2020. Following the bankruptcy of Café Ari, the sculpture was stored in April 2025 while a new location was sought. After a redesign, the sculpture was placed on the JA Deelderplein, situated between the Nieuwe Binnenweg, Van Speykstraat, and Josephstraat. On Friday, September 18, 2026, this JA Deelderplein was opened by Mayor Carola Schouten.
