This Peek & Cloppenburg store at Hoogstraat 200 features 28 circular mosaics created by visual artist Nel Klaassen. During the reconstruction period in 1953, three storefronts were completed at Hoogstraat 196,198, 200, and 1, designed by the Kraaijvanger architectural firm. All three buildings are designated municipal monuments and feature facade artwork. The Peek & Cloppenburg building is located on the corner of Hoogstraat and Korte Hoogstraat. Klaassen's colorful mosaics are installed at the same height between the windows of the first and second floors. A bird is depicted alternately on the large circles (Ø 2 cm) and a flower or plant on the smaller circle (Ø 60 cm). 40 mosaics have been applied on the side of the Hoogstraat, and 17 around the corner on the Korte Hoogstraat. Although it appears as if each stone contains the same image, the composition is different each time. The 11 facade ornaments appear to have been glued onto the facade like buttons, as if they were medallions. The facade decorations of Hoogstraat 196, 198 and 200 can be considered together as an ensemble of the reconstruction period.
