About the artwork
This Lightning bolt consisted of two hook-shaped signs in relation to circular concrete walls. With his design, artist Han Goan Lim wanted to respond to the circle segments in the square and do something with the emptiness and space of that same square. The work entered into a dialogue with the present tree party. The scratch marks made of steel formed, as it were, a signature on the square, a finishing touch and thus gave an identity to the square. This artwork was created in the context of urban renewal in Crooswijk. The work has been removed due to new construction.
About the artist
Han Goan Lim (Rotterdam, 1950) studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy. He started as a sculptor and made various light works of art. He always works in relation to the environment and also works as a consultant in the field of art assignments in public spaces for various municipalities. As an avid networker, he lobbies in Rotterdam to put the importance of artist initiatives and art in the public space on the political agenda. Several works by Goan Lim can be found in the public space of Rotterdam. His work is also included in the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
