The Havensteder housing association wanted to transform a neglected courtyard in the Provenierswijk into a collective courtyard. Architects Tanja Lina and Barbara Jansen (Buro Lina) made the design and realized the garden with the local residents after several years of intensive consultation. The entrance gate of Onze Tuin was also created through collaboration with residents. Artist John Bosma, together with young people, disassembled more than sixty bicycle frames and turned them into a large red fence. The frames are welded together and powder coated in a factory. The old gears are placed at the top of the gate as a safeguard. The bicycle wrecks came from the municipal cleaning service, but also from the housing association, which clears up abandoned bicycles at porches.
Architect and visual artist John Bosma (1975) works a lot with waste materials, with which he makes wall objects and other assemblies. Bosma studied architecture at TU Delft and worked at 2012Architecten and Van Schagen Architecten, among others. In 2008 he founded Studio Schuim, where he works on small reuse projects in collaboration with residents.
