From 1970 to 1997, this industrial estate housed the "Laagjes" fire station. Initially, the Rotterdam fire department was part of the Roteb (Roteb). During the building's construction, Rotterdam artist Johan van Reede was commissioned to create an artwork under the percentage scheme. This scheme stipulated that a percentage (1 to 1,5%) of the construction costs for government buildings was allocated to visual art. Van Reede created this work on the painted sheet steel facade. A black steel angle supports five squares of varying sizes. The squares are painted with lines and surfaces in red, blue, white, gray, and black. In 1997, the fire station was closed due to budget cuts, but the colorful facade artwork still hangs there fifty years later. The location is used by the Rotterdam Municipality's sanitation department.
