Once again this year we celebrate International Women's Day with an art walk led by guide Anne-Marie Ros, where we put art by and with women in the spotlight. With this annual tradition, we bring people of all ages together to celebrate the diversity and creativity of women artists. Take a stroll along a selection of works of art, street art and locations that make us think about ingenuity and resilience, and about the role and power of women in art. Special attention is paid to the imagination of women. In this way we discover the beauty in everyday spots and patterns, as a tribute to the recently deceased artist Lizan Freijsen (1960-2024).

The route starts at the Parkkade at the location unveiled on November 10, 2023 Razzia Monument by artist Anne Wenzel, a memorial consisting of a man and a woman placed at a distance from each other. The figures were once one whole, but the raid separated them, just as lovers were brutally torn apart by the raid. We also look at the sculpture of the queen Wilhelmina (1968) made by Charlotte van Pallandt and the playful Lost pearl (2015) by artist Madeleine Berkhemer (1973-2019). Through The Plait (2021) by the Greek artist Kalliopi Lemos on the Westersingel, we walk to the Stationsplein to Moments Contained (2023); the four-meter-high statue of a confident woman who is also vulnerable at the same time, made by the English artist Thomas J Price. We then let our imaginations run wild with the self-titled one, composed of blocks sculpture (1971) by Margot Zanstra, perhaps the most beautiful abstraction of a tree, and it facade relief (1977) by the Rotterdam artist Loeki Metz makes us reflect on the changing city.

There are a limited number of places available for this tour of art in public spaces. Therefore, register in advance via tours@artindexrotterdam.nl, after which you will receive a confirmation email. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to have a drink together and have a nice chat in the recently opened Bergweg station in Noord.
