On Saturday 8 March, BKOR will be organising a free art walk for the fifth time, dedicated to International Women's Day. Join art guide Anne-Marie Ros and discover in 10.000 steps how female artists shape the city.
This walk on March 8 has become an annual tradition and the kick-off of this year's walking season. Anne-Marie Ros will take you with her enthusiasm, knowledge and sharp eye along a selection of sculptures and monuments by female artists, including Madeleine Berkhemer, Lydia Schouten, Anne Wenzel and Anuli Croon. For example, we will visit the bronze declaration of love For you my love (2003) by Hulya Yilmaz and Kalliopi Lemos' sculpture The Plait (2021), a powerful symbol of liberation. What do their works say about power, visibility, strength and vulnerability? And how does the city itself become a stage for change? Along the way we will make a coffee stop (consumption at your own expense).
There are a limited number of places available for this tour. Please register in advance via tours@artindexrotterdam.nlYou will then receive a confirmation email with the starting location.
Year of the Woman
On March 8, 2025, it starts Year of the Rotterdam Woman. It is 50 years ago that the United Nations declared the International Year of Women. Throughout the year, the municipality of Rotterdam focuses on female voices and stories in all sectors: from culture to politics. Art in public spaces plays an important role in this.
