The artwork has stood on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam since 2025. A Minute of Shelter by Narges Mohammadi, a memorial for victims and survivors of femicide. The work was commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam following the tragic murder in 2018 of sixteen-year-old Rotterdam schoolgirl Hümeyra.
Earlier this year, SIR and BKOR organized Z-Files #33: A Minute of Shelter, with thinkers and writers on the role of art in making the vulnerable position of women visible. In the publication A Minute of Shelter A number of their lectures have now been brought together: the commissioned essays by political philosopher and researcher Catherine Koekoek and Vienna Professor of Visual Arts Elke Krasny, supplemented by a foreword by Sandra Smets and an interview with Narges Mohammadi.
During the presentation, Catherine Koekoek reads from her essay. An island in time: on feminist space and resistance and she enters into a conversation with Mohammadi. The first copy is presented to the initiators of the Rotterdam Year of the Woman 2025: Anouk van Mil and Marjan Beijering.
The publication is available for €9,95 at Donner, vanGennep, NAi Booksellers, TENT, Stroom (The Hague), Savannah Bay (Utrecht), and Limestone Books (Maastricht).
