l'Homme qui marche, the sculpture by Auguste Rodin on the Westersingel is on temporary loan to the exhibition between October 2016 and March 2017. Degas und Rodin - The Race of the Giants towards the Modern in Wuppertal, Germany.

The 600 kilogram statue that Rodin made in 1907 was acquired by the city of Rotterdam in 1961. In 2000 the bronze sculpture was placed on the sculpture terrace on the Westersingel. Since then it has been part of the international sculpture collection (Sculpture International Rotterdam). The sculpture will temporarily move to the exhibition in Wuppertal at the end of October, which can be seen from October 25, 2016 to February 28, 2017.

Never before have the works of Edgar Degas and Auguste Rodin been compared and confronted in such an extensive exhibition. After Renoir, Monet, Sisley and Pissarro, the Von der Heydt-Museum Wuppertal now presents – for the first time – these two giants of impressionism. The exhibition makes clear how both did everything they could to create a new art. For more information, please visit the website from the museum.
