Since 2001 it has been located on the glitter square next to the Erasmus Bridge Marathon sculpture made by artist Henk Visch. The artwork is almost six meters high. It was donated by the Rotterdam Marathon Foundation just before the 20th marathon. Visch gave the image twenty colored areas, which have a meaning. They symbolize the multitude of nationalities of the participants in this competition, which has grown into an international phenomenon. After all these years, the colored surfaces had been damaged in some places and that is why the work was lifted from its pedestal on Wednesday 3 June and is being renovated. The work will be completely repainted and will be placed back at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge in August. Click here for a news item and sound fragment on the Rijnmond news website.
