With the sculpture View on wind artist Madelon Hooykaas will give Nesselande a new work of art. On the Kretalaan on the beach of Nesselande, a sturdy weather vane focuses on the puddle. As an indication of the low-lying polder from which the Nesselande district has emerged as one of the most beautiful suburbs of Rotterdam, a blue light ring will indicate the Nieuw Amsterdams Peil (NAP).

An art plan was developed at the start of the construction of Nesselande. The creation of Hooykaas's work for the new neighborhood in Prince Alexander took a long time and involved many procedures. The company Buyk Constructies, in collaboration with the artist and the municipality of Rotterdam, worked hard to realize this work.

Madelon Hooykaas (1942) is a visual artist and filmmaker. She grew up in Rotterdam. With her pioneering work, which was often created in collaboration with the Scottish artist Elsa Stansfield (1945-2004), she has developed a comprehensive art practice in which water and light, memory and presence, and physical and human landscapes are recurring themes. Hooykaas talked to Marjolein Geraedts about her artistry and the artwork View of wind. The interview gives an image of a passionate artist who is active to this day.
