The interest in the future of money, and simultaneously in the meaning of value and exchange, is an ongoing research by artist Farida Sedoc. Every year Sedoc designs her own signature coin, inspired by her own archive to inspire alternative thinking and bartering. She (re)prints old, current and future currencies, both real banknotes and imaginary ones. With this re-imagining of money flows, the artist proposes a retelling of the origin, meaning, nature, use, system, myth and future of money, which also forms the basis for the design of an annual signature coin. Hereby exclusively – with as the center of the image – a female figurehead: Marie de Man, originating from the Surinamese two guilder fifty banknote. This banknote is better known as the 'kotomisi', dating from July 2, 1967. The chosen title of the coin refers to Article 1 of the constitution: specified as the rights of freedom for every human being on earth. This painting Declaration of Rights was applied during the project Ro!Source of Salvation!, an initiative of Opperclaes in the context of 150 years of colonial and slavery past. The aim of the project is to honor and preserve the legacy of the Surinamese artist Ro Heilbron (1938-2014). Sedoc about Heilbron: “The artist Ro Heilbron appeals to me very much in the sense of his approach to the work. I also work with graphic design, continue to work hard and try to inspire people to a critical view of themselves and the world. Heilbron's social and artistic practice were closely linked, which is why his work speaks in terms of content about themes that are still relevant today.. "
