About the artwork

The old transformer station on the Claes de Vrieselaan with the intersection of the Nieuwe Binnenweg was given a metamorphosis in December 2020. The Rotterdam artist duo Bier en Brood made a mural on all sides of the building. The artwork is about connection and refers to the corona time in which we lived; it is in that sense a marker of the times. The classic handshake symbolizes connection. The murals were realized during the project 'Give me space', an initiative of the MadeBy foundation. During the difficult corona time, they wanted to convey a positive message in public space, the place where people could meet at a distance.
