About the artwork

Since October 1985 there has been a painting of a sixty meter long snake on the wall of Blijdorp Zoo on the side of the Stadhoudersweg. The snake is red, white, blue and coils with visitors from the zoo towards the old entrance on the Van Aerssenlaan. The design is from the biological educational service of the zoo. They thought that the wall could use a color. Thanks to donations from private individuals and a substantial contribution from the Blijdorp Association, the mural was realized.
