This mural shows an atmosphere of fusion: the different colours that Suriname is rich in, in the broadest sense, of culture and nature. "Even though Suriname is currently having a hard time, I want to highlight the beautiful side, because Suriname is originally a beautiful country and everyone should continue to see that", says illustrator and visual artist Hedy Tjin. We see pangi fabrics that are often used for various rituals for decoration and to communicate, a korjaal that provides connection, and clasped hands that depict unity and love. This painting was applied during the project Ro!Source of Salvation!, an initiative of Opperclaes in the context of 150 years of colonial and slavery past. The aim of the project is to honor and preserve the legacy of the Surinamese artist Ro Heilbron (1938-2014).
