About the artwork

In 1997, the third part of the Alexandrium shopping center, also known as Alexandrium III or Woonmall, was opened. The parking lot is located on the roof of the building, which can be reached via a circular driveway. In the middle of this driveway is a 48 meter high white steel artwork with the title Stairs to the Stars. The work was created by the Rotterdam artist Ineke Visser. Visser designs large abstract landmarks, in which no dimensions are shunned. Perhaps that is why she was asked for this assignment by the owner of the building, because this work must stand out and be recognizable to shoppers. The three steel surfaces can therefore be seen from the highway. By the way, there is another work of art by her on the square near the Alexandrium I shopping center (the former Oosterhof), namely the bright red Curled ribbons.
