Waterlevel (2002) Buro MA.AN
This male looks attentively at the water with his trouser legs up, because the water level in the girths can differ. The canals are part of a network to conduct water collection. Buro MA.AN made this little man who is aware of this practical function, but with his 19th century costume also fits into the historical environment. Granite steps with a stainless steel tube have been placed near the stairs. The stairs are made of recycled hard stone curbs. Many visitors wonder if it is Freddy Heineken, because the work is located in front of the former Heineken brewery in the Crooswijksesingel. Buro MA.AN gave the artwork its title Waterlevel.
Buro MA.AN is an interdisciplinary design agency that focuses on urban design, landscape, visual arts and architecture. The visual artist Martijn Boelhouwers and the urban planner André van der Eijk have realized this work.
