The islands (1970) Ian Pieters
Since 1970 there has been an abstract plastic made by the Rotterdam artist Ian Pieters in this green area on Alsemstraat. It is a freestanding image of polished stainless steel, which is placed on a concrete circle. The artwork The islands is made up of round shapes and round cutouts. At the foot of the image is a cut-out shape, reminiscent of an island. Because of these shapes and the modern choice of materials, it is a striking and quirky piece of work that was created within the framework of the neighborhood enhancement fund.
